Drawing
Drawing is the skill or method of creating visual representations on a surface, typically paper, using various mediums such as ink, graphite, chalk, charcoal, or crayon. In the realm of formal artistic expression, drawing can be described as the predominantly linear depiction of objects from the observable world, as well as the portrayal of ideas, notions, sentiments, emotions, and imaginings translated into visual form. It extends to the depiction of symbols and even abstract shapes. This definition, however, is applicable to all graphic arts and techniques that prioritize form and structure over volume and color, distinguishing it from painting.
Painting
Painting, the expression of ideas and emotions, with the creation of certain aesthetic qualities, in a two-dimensional visual language. The elements of this language—its shapes, lines, colours, tones, and textures—are used in various ways to produce sensations of volume, space, movement, and light on a flat surface. These elements are combined into expressive patterns in order to represent real or supernatural phenomena, to interpret a narrative theme, or to create wholly abstract visual relationships.
